Favour Fawunmi: England-Nigeria winger joins Oldham Athletic on loan from Stoke U21

Oldham Athletic have signed England-Nigeria winger Favour Fawunmi on a loan deal from Stoke City’s under-21 side. The 20-year-old left-footer, who can operate across the attack but is primarily a right winger, joins the League Two club for the 2026-27 campaign.

London-born Fawunmi arrives at Boundary Park after a spell in Stoke’s development set-up, having moved there from West Ham United’s academy system. His loan includes a return to Stoke U21 at the end of the season, with his stay at Oldham running through to 31 May 2027.

Fawunmi has already tasted senior football, featuring in the Championship, League One, the EFL Cup, EFL Trophy, FA Cup and National League Cup. Across those competitions he has made appearances for previous clubs while building experience against senior opposition, including 361 minutes in League One and further outings in the second tier and domestic cups.

At youth level he produced notable attacking numbers, scoring 12 goals in 33 U18 Premier League matches and adding five goals and four assists in 16 Premier League 2 appearances. He also found the net in the Premier League Cup and FA Youth Cup, where he played a part in West Ham United U18’s FA Youth Cup-winning campaign in 2022-23.

Standing at 1.80m and comfortable cutting in from the right onto his stronger left foot, Fawunmi gives Oldham an additional wide option as they prepare for the new League Two season. The move sees him link up with Oldham for the entirety of the 2026-27 campaign before returning to Stoke U21 at the conclusion of his loan.
