Ghana’s Abdul Fatawu Issahaku embraces Ipswich Town challenge after Premier League move

Ghana international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has promised to give his all to Ipswich Town after completing his move to the English Premier League club from Leicester City.

The Black Stars winger signed a five-year contract with Ipswich on Tuesday, 21 July, as he prepares for a new chapter in his career following an impressive spell with Leicester.

Fatawu excited by new Premier League opportunity

Ipswich confirmed the arrival of the 22-year-old attacker in an announcement on X, stating:

“Ipswich Town is delighted to announce the signing of Abdul Fatawu from Leicester City. The winger has joined for an undisclosed fee, penning a five-year deal at Portman Road.”

Speaking in his first interview after completing the transfer, Fatawu described the move as a proud moment and expressed his excitement about joining the club.

“I am proud to have signed for Ipswich Town. The ambition the club has is very exciting and I’m looking forward to being a part of that as we prepare for the Premier League season. After speaking to the manager (Gary O’Neil), I know what the expectation is and I’m looking forward to meeting my teammates and starting work,” the winger said as quoted on the Ipswich Town website.

The Ghanaian forward also praised Ipswich’s supporters and promised to repay their backing on the pitch.

“I have played against Ipswich a few times during my time in England and I know how passionate the supporters are for the club, so I’m excited to play for them and show them what I can do.”

World Cup experience strengthens Ipswich squad

Fatawu joins Ipswich after a strong 2025/26 season with Leicester City, where he scored nine goals in 44 appearances across competitions.

His performances also earned him a prominent role with Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he featured in all four of the Black Stars’ matches.

The tournament further increased his reputation as one of Ghana’s most exciting attacking talents and helped attract interest ahead of his move to Ipswich.

New challenge awaits in England

Having already experienced promotion battles and top-flight football with Leicester, Fatawu now turns his attention to helping Ipswich compete in the Premier League.
