FAR Rabat snatch stoppage-time win to keep title chase alive
AS FAR Rabat showed championship character on Sunday evening, edging past Hassania Agadir 3–2 in a pulsating encounter at the Adrar Stadium to keep their title ambitions firmly on track in the Moroccan Botola Pro.
The military side produced a performance full of momentum swings, early brilliance, defensive lapses, and ultimately late composure, as captain Mohamed Rabie Hrimat stepped up in the 91st minute to convert a decisive penalty and seal all three points.
AS FAR needed just seven minutes to announce their intentions. Jalal Eddine El Khafif struck early, giving the visitors a dream start and silencing the home crowd.
But the advantage lasted only moments. In a chaotic twist just two minutes later, Hassania Agadir levelled through Mauritanian defender Mohamed Nouh, who unfortunately turned the ball into his own net, restoring parity almost instantly.
The frantic opening minutes set the tone for a match that refused to settle.
The game continued at a high tempo, with both sides pushing forward aggressively and exposing space at the back.
El Khafif once again proved to be AS FAR’s key weapon, restoring their lead in the 39th minute with a well-taken finish that underlined his sharp attacking instincts.
Yet again, Hassania responded immediately. Just three minutes later, Portuguese forward Clódis Cabral found the equaliser, making it 2–2 and sending both teams into the break deadlocked after a breathless first half.
The second half told a different story. Both coaches introduced changes in search of control and a winning edge, but the rhythm of the game slowed considerably.
Chances became fewer, attacks less fluid, and the match gradually shifted into a tense tactical battle rather than the open contest seen before halftime.
Despite moments of pressure from both sides, neither team could find the breakthrough as fatigue and caution began to dominate proceedings.
Just as the match appeared destined to end in a draw, drama struck deep into stoppage time.
AS FAR were awarded a penalty in the 91st minute after sustained late pressure inside the box. Captain Mohamed Rabie Hrimat took responsibility, stepping forward with composure under immense pressure.
He made no mistake, converting calmly to secure a crucial victory for the Rabat giants and spark celebrations on the visiting bench.
The result lifts AS FAR to 40 points, keeping them firmly in second place in the Botola Pro standings. They remain just one point behind leaders Maghreb de Fès, who earlier maintained their advantage with a narrow 1–0 win over Ittihad Touarga.
For Hassania Agadir, the defeat is a setback in their mid-table campaign, leaving them on 20 points and in 12th position after another frustrating night of missed opportunities.
With the 20th round still ongoing, including fixtures such as Olympique Safi against FUS Rabat, the Botola Pro title race remains finely balanced.
But for now, AS FAR leave Agadir with maximum points, renewed belief, and a clear message to the rest of the league: they are not stepping out of the title fight without a battle.
