Faouzi Ghoulam Confident as Algeria Eyes Early CAN Qualification
Algeria is on the brink of securing a spot in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, and Faouzi Ghoulam believes the Fennecs are ready to finish the job. With nine points from three matches, the North African side leads their group and can punch their ticket to Morocco with a win over Malawi on Wednesday at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium in Blida.
Ghoulam, reflecting on the team’s form and ambitions, emphasized the importance of performance and growth:
“It’s clear that we’re going to try to win this match and, above all, please our fans by delivering a good performance. The coach insists a lot on possession of the ball and not letting the opponent play. To do this, we’ll have to be in good physical shape.”
The Napoli left-back also highlighted the squad’s development and aspirations:
“Our team is getting stronger and I’m convinced that the national team will be even stronger in the future. Our generation is trying to make history in Algerian football. But we’re much more focused on the match we want to win than on records.”
With momentum, talent, and unity on their side, Algeria is poised to become the first team to officially qualify for the 2015 AFCON — a significant milestone in Christian Gourcuff’s early tenure.
