Faouzi Benzarti Returns to Casablanca for Confederation Cup Clash
As Raja Casablanca prepares to host Étoile Sportive du Sahel in the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup, all eyes will also be on Faouzi Benzarti, the Tunisian club’s coach who is making an emotional return to familiar territory.
The match, set for Saturday at 19:00 GMT+1, will take place at a stadium Benzarti knows intimately — having previously led Raja to an impressive Club World Cup final appearance in 2013.
The veteran coach received a warm reception from fans and locals alike upon his arrival in Morocco.
“It’s really heartwarming, everyone has welcomed me, whether it’s the Raja fans or the other people I’ve met since my arrival,” said Benzarti.
“It’s not just for our achievement at the Club World Cup but also for the serious work done with the club. We are like ambassadors, and we must show a good face of the country wherever we go.”
Looking ahead to the crucial match, Benzarti acknowledged the challenge of facing a motivated Raja side backed by their passionate supporters:
“The match will be difficult, especially as the locals will be supported by a large crowd.”
With continental qualification on the line, the encounter promises to be a spirited duel between two North African giants, shaped by both tactical experience and emotional reunions.
