After two years of limited opportunities at Stade de Reims, 20-year-old Fallou Fall could finally be given a chance to showcase his talent with the first team.
The central defender, who has spent much of his time in the reserve squad, impressed during a successful loan spell in Norway, and with potential departures at the club this winter, he may now have the opportunity to make an impact in Ligue 1.
Fallou Fall’s journey to Reims began in January 2023, when the club secured his signature for €500,000, despite strong competition for his services.
At the time, Fall was making waves in Croatia’s second division with Grafičar Belgrade, and his performances had drawn the attention of several clubs.
Stade de Reims, however, managed to bring him to the Stade Auguste-Delaune on a contract running until 2027.
Upon his arrival in Champagne, Fallou Fall was initially expected to adjust to the professional environment with the reserve team, having been given the time to find his footing before stepping up to the first team.
However, his opportunities to showcase his abilities in Ligue 1 have been few and far between, with only a handful of appearances for the senior squad and 24 matches with the reserve side.
A productive loan spell at Fredrikstad FK in Norway has revitalized his career.
Fallou Fall joined the Eliteserien side midway through the season, where he quickly became an integral part of their three-man defense under coach Andreas Hagen.
His defensive contributions helped Fredrikstad finish with the third-best defense in the league, and his performances have not gone unnoticed.
In 14 appearances for Fredrikstad, Fall scored twice and provided solid defensive performances, playing a crucial role in the team’s strong finish to the season.
Fredrikstad’s success, including a sixth-place finish in the league and a Norwegian Cup victory, was bolstered by Fall’s presence in the backline.
With just six months left on his loan, Fallou Fall’s future is uncertain, especially with potential departures at Stade de Reims.
Reports suggest that the club is considering bringing him back in the winter transfer window following the expected departure of Ivorian central defender Emmanuel Agbadou, who is linked with a move to Wolverhampton.
While Fall’s camp is open to a return to Reims, they are seeking assurances over his playing time in manager Luka Elsner’s system.
If guaranteed significant involvement, Fallou Fall could make his long-awaited return to Ligue 1.
Without such assurances, he may opt to stay with Fredrikstad for the remainder of the season.
