Fakhri Lakay joins Ahly Tripoli camp ahead of new Libyan League season

Fakhri Lakay has joined Ahly Tripoli’s training camp in Alexandria after completing his move from Ceramica Cleopatra, although the Libyan club has yet to announce the signing officially.

The South African forward arrived at the camp on Monday and began working with his new team under manager Hossam El Badry as Ahly Tripoli prepare for the new Libyan League season.

FilGoal.com previously reported that Ahly Tripoli were interested in signing Lakay from Ceramica Cleopatra. The club have now concluded the required procedures to bring the player to Libya, according to information seen by FilGoal.com, but have not yet released a formal announcement confirming the transfer.

Lakay, 29, spent last season with Ceramica Cleopatra after initially joining the Egyptian club from Pyramids FC in the summer of 2025 on loan. Ceramica Cleopatra later completed a permanent deal for the forward.

He made 30 appearances for Ceramica Cleopatra last season, scoring six goals and providing six assists.

The move takes Lakay to a side that ended last season with silverware. Ahly Tripoli won the Libyan Cup last season under El Badry and will now begin preparations for their next campaign at their Alexandria camp.

The club’s squad also includes former Enppi player Mostafa Shakshak and former Pyramids FC striker Fiston Mayele.

Lakay previously enjoyed a successful spell with Pyramids FC, winning both the Egypt Cup and the CAF Champions League during his time with the club. He also claimed the Egyptian League Cup with Ceramica Cleopatra.

Ahly Tripoli’s decision to recruit Lakay strengthens their attacking options before the start of the new Libyan League season, with the player bringing experience from his time in Egyptian football and from his previous success in domestic and continental competitions.
