Burundian international goalkeeper Fabien Mutombo has made a significant move this transfer window, leaving Uganda’s Vipers SC to join Tanzania’s Kinondoni Municipal Council Football Club (KMC FC).

Mutombo’s transfer marks a pivotal moment in his career as he seeks new challenges and opportunities in Tanzanian football.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper, who has represented his country three times, is eager to make a fresh start and secure a regular playing position after a period of limited appearances.

Fabien Mutombo began his football journey at LLB Academy FC in Burundi, where he honed his skills and gained recognition.

His talent soon saw him move to Uganda’s Premier League, signing with Vipers SC during the 2019-2020 season.

However, his time with Vipers was marked by limited playtime, managing only 11 appearances in his first season and just one match last season.

This lack of playing time has impacted his career, including his position in the national team, from which he has been absent for several years.

Despite having offers from other Ugandan clubs, including KCCA, Mutombo chose to explore new horizons in Tanzania.

His decision to join KMC FC, a club that finished fifth in the Ligi Kuu Bara last season, reflects his ambition to revitalize his career and prove his worth as a top goalkeeper.

Mutombo’s move to KMC FC is not just about a change of scenery; it’s a strategic step towards regaining his form and reestablishing himself as a key player.

In a statement, Mutombo expressed his excitement and determination to seize this opportunity.

“I am embarking on this new journey with a strong desire to give my best and help my new club achieve its goals.

I am looking forward to this challenge and am committed to working hard to earn a starting spot,” he said.

His move is seen as a potential recovery opportunity for Mutombo, who is keen to return to the Burundian national team.

His debut for the national side came on March 13, 2017, against Djibouti, and he hopes to make a comeback by showcasing his skills and consistency at KMC FC.

Fabien Mutombo’s transfer to KMC FC is a testament to his resilience and commitment to his career. At 27, he is at a crucial point where regular playtime and strong performances can significantly impact his future prospects.

KMC FC, known for its competitive spirit in the Tanzanian Premier League, provides an ideal platform for Mutombo to demonstrate his abilities and achieve his career goals.

The details of his contract, including the transfer fee and duration, remain undisclosed. However, the move is expected to benefit both the player and the club.

KMC FC gains an experienced and motivated goalkeeper, while Mutombo gets the chance to reboot his career and aim for new heights in Tanzanian football.

As the new season approaches, all eyes will be on Fabien Mutombo to see how he adapts to his new environment and whether he can reclaim his place as a formidable goalkeeper, both at the club level and internationally.
