Ezechiel Banzuzi emerges as Borussia Dortmund target after Leipzig move

Dutch-DR Congo midfielder Ezechiel Banzuzi is being linked with a move from RB Leipzig to Borussia Dortmund in a potential Bundesliga transfer.

Banzuzi, 21, joined Leipzig from Belgian club OH Leuven on 1 July 2025 in a deal worth €16m. He signed a contract running until 30 June 2030, leaving Leipzig under no immediate contractual pressure to sell.

The central midfielder has made 24 Bundesliga appearances and provided one assist. He has also scored twice in four DFB-Pokal appearances, although those figures cover his recorded senior career at Leipzig rather than a single campaign.

Banzuzi began his senior career at NAC Breda before moving to OH Leuven in 2023. His transfer to Leipzig represented a significant rise in value, with his market valuation standing at €16m when the Dortmund interest was recorded.

A move between the two Bundesliga clubs would keep Banzuzi in Germany, where he has so far made 578 minutes of league football available to Leipzig. His dual eligibility is reflected in his Netherlands and DR Congo nationality.

There is no indication that an agreement has been reached, and the reported interest remains at rumour stage. Banzuzi remains a Leipzig player with four years left on his current contract.
