Eyupspor sign Moroccan-German midfielder Abdelhamid Sabiri from Fiorentina

Abdelhamid Sabiri has joined Turkish Super Lig club Eyupspor from Fiorentina on a free transfer, giving the 29-year-old Moroccan-German attacking midfielder a new chapter in Turkey.

Sabiri has signed a contract with Eyupspor until 30 June 2027. He arrives after a spell with Fiorentina, although much of his time with the Italian club was spent away on loan.

The midfielder joined Fiorentina from Sampdoria for €2.5m on 30 January 2023. He subsequently spent time on loan at Saudi Arabian club Al-Fayha, United Arab Emirates side Ajman Club and Al-Taawoun before returning to the Italian team.

Sabiri’s loan spell at Al-Fayha began in September 2023 and ended the following June, with the move involving a €100,000 loan fee. He then moved to Ajman Club in September 2024 and Al-Taawoun in January 2025, before returning to Fiorentina at the end of that season.

The move to Eyupspor represents another change of league for a player whose career has included football in Germany, England, Italy, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. He began senior football with Nuremberg II before moving into the first team at 1. FC Nuremberg.

Sabiri later joined Huddersfield for €1.5m in August 2017. He moved to SC Paderborn on a free transfer in August 2019, then signed for Ascoli in September 2020. His time at Ascoli included a loan spell from Sampdoria before he joined the Italian club permanently for €1m in July 2022.

The 1.86m midfielder is right-footed and has played primarily in an attacking midfield role. His career record includes 43 appearances and 11 goals in Serie B, along with 33 Serie A appearances, five goals and two assists. In the Saudi Pro League, he recorded seven goals and eight assists in 31 appearances.

Sabiri has also played in the Premier League, making seven appearances and registering one assist, while his career has included appearances in the FA Cup, EFL Cup, Italy Cup, AFC Champions League and AFC Champions League Two.

Eyupspor have now completed the free-transfer signing of Sabiri from Fiorentina, with his contract running through June 2027.
