CAF Champions League final

Hlompho Kekana believes a blend of experience, patience and hunger can steer Mamelodi Sundowns back to continental glory in the CAF Champions League, as the South African giants prepare for a decisive two-legged final against AS FAR Rabat in May.

Kekana stressed that mentality and discipline could determine the outcome, highlighting the importance of momentum and defensive solidity in the final.

“What defines the outcome is the one that comes with a lot of momentum, hunger and determination to win. I always believe that the CAF Champions League is a game of goals and not conceding,” Kekana told CAF website.

The tie will be decided over two legs on May 17 and 24, with Kekana warning that caution will be essential in a tightly contested final.

“It is very fragile when it comes to that, you have to be very structured because you playing against teams that are well structured and know how to play.”

Kekana believes Sundowns’ continental experience and squad depth give them an edge, especially after reaching last year’s final and regularly facing Africa’s elite clubs.

“Biggest advantage is that we have been in the competition for some time and were in the final last year so I believe we stand a very good chance.”

“Our players are national team players and experienced in playing on the continent. I believe it puts them at an advantage, and they just need to continue playing like they have been against the big teams such as Al Ahly and Wydad.”

With belief high in the camp, Kekana insists the mix of seasoned internationals and domestic leaders places Mamelodi Sundowns in a strong position to challenge for continental supremacy once again in the CAF Champions League.

However, he maintains that success will depend on precision, discipline and an unwavering hunger to convert their recent experience into another African crown.
