Expanded FIFA Club World Cup set to launch in the United States

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is scheduled to commence on 14 June in the United States, marking the debut of the tournament’s expanded 32-team format.

This month-long competition will culminate with the final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on 13 July.

Tournament structure and participation

The revamped Club World Cup will feature eight groups of four teams, with the top two from each group advancing to the knockout stages.

This format mirrors that of the FIFA World Cup, offering a comprehensive showcase of club football talent from across the globe.

The allocation of teams is as follows: 12 from Europe (UEFA), 6 from South America (CONMEBOL), 4 each from Africa (CAF), Asia (AFC), and North/Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF), 1 from Oceania (OFC), and 1 from the host nation, the United States.

Qualified teams

Notable clubs set to participate include Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Inter Milan, and Juventus from Europe; Palmeiras, Flamengo, Fluminense, River Plate, and Boca Juniors from South America; Al Ahly and Wydad AC from Africa; Al Hilal and Al Ain FC from Asia; and Inter Miami CF representing the host nation.

Venues across the United States

Matches will be held in 12 stadiums across 11 cities, including:

  • MetLife Stadium (East Rutherford, New Jersey)
  • Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta, Georgia)
  • Bank of America Stadium (Charlotte, North Carolina)
  • TQL Stadium (Cincinnati, Ohio)
  • Rose Bowl Stadium (Pasadena, California)
  • Hard Rock Stadium (Miami Gardens, Florida)
  • GEODIS Park (Nashville, Tennessee)
  • Camping World Stadium and Inter&Co Stadium (Orlando, Florida)
  • Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)
  • Lumen Field (Seattle, Washington)
  • Audi Field (Washington, D.C.)

Prize money and financial distribution

FIFA has announced a total prize fund of $1 billion for the tournament.

This includes $475 million allocated based on sporting performance and $525 million distributed as participation fees, determined by sporting and commercial criteria.

The tournament winner stands to earn up to $125 million.

Broadcasting and global reach

The tournament will be broadcast globally, with streaming services like DAZN providing coverage to a worldwide audience.

This expanded visibility aims to elevate the profile of club football on an international scale.

Looking ahead

As the inaugural edition of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup approaches, anticipation builds for a competition that promises to bring together the world’s top clubs in a celebration of football.

The tournament not only offers a new platform for club competition but also serves as a precursor to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted jointly by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
