EXCLUSIVE: Nigeria FA President Ibrahim Gusau to become new WAFU Zone B Boss

Gusau

Following the resignation of Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku as WAFU Zone B President of the West African Football Union, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Musa Gusau has emerged as the front-runner to assume the influential regional role.

Close sources suggest Gusau is in pole position to take over from Okraku due to his seniority, stature, and respect he commands among member associations.

The most senior football administrator in the region following the departure of Okraku, Gusau, does not only excel by rank but by his diplomatic rapport with fellow FA chiefs.

His presidency of the NFF has been credited with restoring stability to Nigerian football, and he is viewed by many in WAFU Zone B as a unifying figure who can sustain and build on the progress achieved under the outgoing president’s leadership.

“He’s popular, level-headed, and very experienced in football administration. There’s a strong chance he’ll be backed by consensus,” a source familiar with intra-WAFU politics confided in AfricaSoccer.com

Gusau’s candidacy will be supported by a majority of the Zone’s member nations, many of whom are already reported to be mobilizing behind him even before any poll is conducted.

As president, Gusau would not only provide continuity but also bring a fresh drive into WAFU Zone B, as the union seeks to solidify integration and improve the degree of football growth in West Africa.

The formal nomination process for the new president of WAFU Zone B should be communicated shortly.
