Former Zamalek star Khaled Al-Ghandour has identified Mamelodi Sundowns and several other clubs as strong contenders for this season’s CAF Champions League title.
Last year, the Brazilians came close to securing their second Champions League trophy but fell short after losing to Pyramids in the final.
Notably, Sundowns eliminated record champions Al Ahly in the semi-finals, a defeat that led to the Egyptian giants parting ways with coach Marcel Koller.
Looking ahead to the new season, Al-Ghandour acknowledges Al Ahly as favorites but warns that they will face stiff competition from clubs like Pyramids, Nahda Berkan, and Sundowns.
“Al Ahly will be the league champions next season and also favorites to win the African Champions League. But there will be strong competition from Pyramids, Nahda Berkan, and Sundowns,” he stated in a Facebook post, according to Ysscores.
Al-Ghandour also expressed confidence in his former club’s chances in the CAF Confederation Cup, predicting a successful campaign for Zamalek.
“As for Zamalek, God willing, they will be champions of the Confederation,” he added.
