Former Black Stars assistant coach George Boateng has been named head coach of Belgian third-tier side RAEC Mons.

The 49-year-old Dutchman has signed a three-year deal, taking over from Emilio Ferrera.

His appointment marks a return to management after leaving Coventry City in November 2024, when Frank Lampard took charge of the Championship club.

Boateng, who holds a UEFA Pro License, brings a wealth of experience from both club and international football.

He was part of Ghana’s technical team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

However, after a disappointing AFCON campaign, the Ghana Football Association dissolved the entire backroom staff, leaving him free to pursue his next challenge.

A former midfielder, Boateng enjoyed a distinguished playing career in England, representing Coventry City, Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Hull City, and Nottingham Forest before retiring in 2013.

His coaching background includes a head coach role with Malaysian side Kelantan and a spell as Aston Villa’s U-23 manager, further strengthening the credentials he now brings to RAEC Mons.
