Ex Al Ahly star Mohamed Fadl slams Ieltsin Camoes as unfit to lead Reds attack
Former Al Ahly forward Mohamed Fadl has launched a fierce criticism of new signing Ieltsin Camoes, insisting the Angolan striker is not the right profile to lead the club’s attack.
Camoes joined Al Ahly on loan from Norwegian side Tromso during the winter transfer window, with an option to buy, in a bid to fix the long-standing centre-forward issue. However, the 26-year-old has yet to score in 5 appearances across the Egyptian Premier League and CAF Champions League, raising serious questions among pundits and fans.
Head coach Jess Thorup handed Camoes a starting place in the league match against El Gouna, but his display again failed to convince.
Speaking on ON Sport, Fadl said: “The player does not have any confidence at all, his face says everything, he is a young player and lacks experience.” He pointed to a clear contrast with teammate Emam Ashour, who rose superbly to head in the only goal of the game, while Camoes squandered a similar headed chance from a cross.
Fadl went further, highlighting flaws in the striker’s movement and body positioning when shooting, which he described as signs of fear and low self-belief.
He concluded that even if Camoes had scored a hat-trick in that match, his opinion would not change, stressing that the striker “is not suitable for Al Ahly.”
