Evra urges advanced role for Patrick Dorgu at Manchester United

Patrice Evra has hailed Patrick Dorgu’s development at Manchester United and believes the young Dane’s future lies further up the pitch.

Dorgu arrived from Lecce 18 months ago and was initially earmarked as a left wing-back in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, a role that demanded intense defensive work and tactical discipline.

Like several teammates, he needed time to adapt to those requirements, but his game has taken a noticeable step forward under Michael Carrick. In a more attack-minded setup, his pace, direct running and confidence on the ball have started to shine consistently.

Evra, a legendary former United left-back, feels that shift suits him perfectly. “When you play as a left-back, people often judge your performance by your attacking play. You have to find the right balance, but with the way modern football is played, I think Patrick Dorgu is more dangerous as a left winger. That goal he scored against Arsenal was unbelievable. He is definitely more attacking than defensive. While the manager will ultimately decide, I see his long-term future as a left winger,” Evra has said.

His comments add weight to the growing view that Dorgu could become a long-term attacking weapon on United’s left flank.
