Everton make initial enquiry about Como winger Assane Diao
Everton have made contact with Como to assess the possibility of signing Senegal international Assane Diao as they look for attacking reinforcements.
The Toffees are examining options to add greater energy and variety to their forward line, and have approached the Serie A club for information about the 20-year-old winger’s availability and the likely terms of a potential transfer.
Diao has attracted interest because of his pace, physical power and ability to operate in several attacking roles. Those qualities have made him an appealing option for Everton as they consider how to strengthen their attack.
His explosive style is also viewed as a good fit for the demands of the Premier League, where the intensity of matches places a premium on speed, strength and versatility in the final third.
However, discussions between Everton and Como remain at an early stage. The English club’s initial approach was intended to establish whether a deal could be feasible, rather than representing a completed agreement or a firm conclusion to negotiations.
Everton could now decide to move more quickly if the information received from Como is encouraging. Much will depend on the Italian club’s stance and the fee it would require to allow Diao to leave.
Diao joined Como after coming through the academy at Real Betis. He subsequently moved to Serie A, where his performances have helped underline the qualities that are now drawing interest from Everton.
The Senegal international’s ability to provide an additional threat from wide areas, while also offering flexibility across the attack, is central to his appeal. Everton are therefore assessing whether his profile can match their needs and whether an agreement with Como can be reached.
For now, there is no indication that the situation has moved beyond preliminary enquiries. The next stage will depend on Como’s valuation of the player and Everton’s willingness to meet the demands of a transfer.
Diao’s development from Real Betis academy player to a young international competing in Serie A has placed him on Everton’s radar at a time when the Premier League club are seeking to add more dynamism to their attack. Further contact could follow, but the position of Como and the amount they would accept remain the key unresolved issues.
