Idrissa Gana Gueye a major doubt for Everton’s season finale at Tottenham
Everton are facing uncertainty over the availability of Idrissa Gana Gueye ahead of their final Premier League fixture of the season against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, with the midfielder still struggling to recover from injury.
The 36-year-old Senegal international has already missed the club’s last three matches, and his involvement in the trip to London remains in doubt as the season reaches its conclusion.
Speaking ahead of the game, Everton manager David Moyes provided an update on the midfielder’s condition but stopped short of confirming whether he would be fit to return to action.
“He has started training on the pitch. I would say it’s 50/50 whether he can participate (in the match against Tottenham). We’ll know more after training and after seeing him in the coming days.
He’s not training with the team at the moment, which is why we’ll have to see him in training,” Moyes said.
The Everton boss made it clear that a final decision would depend on how Gueye responds in the coming days, with further assessment expected closer to matchday.
Despite the possibility of a return, the club are not expected to take any unnecessary risks with the experienced midfielder, particularly given the short turnaround and his recent spell on the sidelines.
Gueye’s absence has been felt in Everton’s midfield in recent weeks, with the team having to adjust without one of their most experienced and defensively reliable players during a crucial stage of the campaign.
As things stand, his participation remains evenly balanced, with Everton awaiting clearer signs in training before making a final call on whether he will travel with the squad to face Spurs.
The situation leaves Moyes with a key selection decision still unresolved as Everton prepare to close out their season away from home.
