Evann Seyram Senaya joins FC Rapperswil-Jona on loan from Basel
Evann Seyram Junior Senaya has joined Swiss second-tier club FC Rapperswil-Jona on a season-long loan from FC Basel for the 2026-27 campaign.
The 20-year-old defender will spend the season with the Challenge League side as he looks to gain regular first-team football and continue his development in Switzerland.
Senaya has been part of Basel’s system since moving to the country in 2019 and has progressed through the club’s youth structure to the Under-21 team.
Senaya moves to Rapperswil-Jona
The loan move is designed to give the young defender greater exposure to senior football after spending much of his development within Basel’s academy system.
Rapperswil-Jona will provide Senaya with an opportunity to play regularly in the Swiss second tier, allowing him to build experience at men’s level during the 2026-27 season.
Basel confirmed that the agreement does not include an option for the Swiss club to make the transfer permanent.
“FC Basel 1893 has loaned Evann Seyram Junior Senaya to FC Rapperswil-Jona for the 2026/27 season. No purchase option has been agreed upon,” posted Basel on their official website.
The move represents another stage in the defender’s development after several years within Basel’s youth ranks.
From Basel academy to senior football
Senaya moved to Switzerland in 2019 and subsequently worked his way through Basel’s various age groups.
The defender is eligible to represent France, Ghana and Togo through his background.
He is the son of former Togo international Senaya, while his older brother Marvin has also pursued a professional football career.
Basel highlighted Senaya’s progression through the club’s development system when announcing the loan.
“The French-Togolese dual citizen joined FC Basel’s youth academy in 2019 and has since progressed through all training levels up to the U21 team. The 20-year-old defender is now expected to gain regular playing experience in men’s football at FC Rapperswil-Jona. FC Basel 1893 wishes you a successful season and much success at FC Rapperswil-Jona, dear Evann.”
The move to Rapperswil-Jona therefore gives Senaya the chance to take the next step after progressing through Basel’s academy.
A new challenge in Switzerland
The 2026-27 season will give Senaya an opportunity to adapt to the demands of regular senior football.
Rather than remaining with Basel’s Under-21 side, the defender will now be competing for a place in a first-team squad in the Swiss Challenge League.
The loan is intended to provide him with valuable playing time and experience as he continues to develop.
At 20, Senaya remains at an important stage of his career, and the move to Rapperswil-Jona provides him with a new environment in which to develop his game.
For Basel, the arrangement also allows the club to monitor the defender’s progress while he gains experience away from the academy environment.
Family connection in professional football
Senaya also comes from a family with strong football connections.
His older brother Marvin Senaya plays for French Ligue 1 side Auxerre.
Marvin is currently recovering from an injury sustained during the World Cup match against Colombia.
While Marvin continues his recovery in France, Evann begins a new chapter of his own career in Switzerland.
The younger Senaya will now focus on establishing himself at Rapperswil-Jona and making the most of the opportunity to play regular men’s football.
His season-long move does not include a permanent transfer option, meaning he remains a Basel player while gaining experience with the Challenge League club.
For the 20-year-old defender, the immediate objective is clear: regular football, continued development and another step forward in his professional career.
