Africans Shine Across Europe as Season Nears End — Mané Makes History, Aubameyang Scores Again
With just one week remaining in Europe’s top five football leagues, African internationals once again made headlines, delivering standout performances and rewriting records. From England to Spain and Germany, it was a weekend of historic moments and decisive goals.
England – Matchday 37
Sadio Mané stunned the football world on Saturday by scoring the fastest hat-trick in Premier League history. The Senegalese midfielder found the net three times in just 2 minutes and 56 seconds for Southampton against Aston Villa, leading the Saints to a dominant 6-1 victory. His lightning-quick treble broke the previous record held by Robbie Fowler since 1994 and will go down as one of the most unforgettable feats in Premier League history.
Elsewhere, Manchester City secured a 4-2 win over Swansea, with African talent once again at the centre of attention. Yaya Touré, the Ivorian midfield powerhouse, scored twice to guide his team to victory. His compatriot, Wilfried Bony, made a return to his former club Swansea, coming off the bench to score against them in the second half and cap off the win for City.
Germany – Matchday 33
Over in the Bundesliga, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang added to his impressive tally with a goal for Borussia Dortmund, converting from the penalty spot against Wolfsburg. It was the Gabon international’s 14th league goal of the season. However, his effort wasn’t enough to avoid a 2-1 defeat for Dortmund, who close out their domestic campaign on a sour note.
Spain – Matchday 37
Granada CF continued their late push for survival in La Liga, cruising to a 3-0 win over Real Sociedad. Leading the charge was Moroccan striker Youssef El Arabi, who opened the scoring with a well-taken goal that set the tone for the match and breathed new life into Granada’s season.
Meanwhile, Thievy Bifouma struck early for Almeria, giving his side the lead against Sevilla. However, the Congolese international’s effort would prove in vain as Sevilla bounced back to win 2-1, leaving Almeria’s hopes of survival hanging by a thread.
As the final matchday approaches across Europe’s elite leagues, African players continue to prove their worth on the biggest stages. From Sadio Mané’s historic hat-trick to crucial goals by Touré, Bony, and El Arabi, the continent’s stars are making the difference—and often the headlines.
