European clubs monitoring Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong

Chelsea could face growing interest in Josh Acheampong during the next transfer window, with several European clubs reportedly keeping track of the England Under-? defender’s situation, according to AS.

The 19-year-old English defender of Ghanaian origin remains part of Xabi Alonso’s plans, however, with the Spanish manager keen to retain him at Stamford Bridge.

Acheampong has been given a more prominent role since Alonso’s arrival and is understood to have a defined place in the first-team squad. His ability to operate both as a right-back and a central defender has increased his value to the manager.

Alonso is also believed to appreciate Acheampong’s technical ability and his capacity to adapt to different tactical demands. The defender has played in six matches for Chelsea this season, completing 401 minutes.

Acheampong joined Chelsea through the club’s academy and is under contract with the Blues until 2029, leaving three years remaining on his current deal. His future will depend partly on his own preference and on the role he continues to occupy in Alonso’s plans.

The defender had already been linked with Liverpool and Real Madrid in recent months. His market value is estimated at 25 million euros by Transfermarkt.

Chelsea are due to face Bournemouth in their next Premier League fixture, the sixth matchday of the English top flight.
