Europa League: Benfica take half-time lead against AC Milan

Benfica lead AC Milan 1-0 at the interval in the opening round of the Europa League league phase after Dodi Lukebakio’s early strike.

The Belgium forward put the Portuguese side ahead in the 16th minute, beating Mike Maignan with a powerful effort that gave the goalkeeper no chance.

Benfica have looked particularly threatening when breaking forward. Their quick counter-attacks have repeatedly tested the AC Milan defence, allowing them to protect their advantage while creating further openings.

AC Milan have tried to move the ball quickly into attacking areas, often using long passes. However, Hutchinson and Chukwueze have struggled to make a decisive impact so far.

Benfica therefore go into half-time with a 1-0 lead. AC Milan will need to find more attacking solutions after the break if they are to get back into the match.
