Europa League: Ajax Amsterdam without Hakim Ziyech against Getafe

Ajax Amsterdam will have to cope without Hakim Ziyech for the Europa League round of 32 second leg against Getafe CF, scheduled for Thursday, February 27, at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

After a 2–0 defeat in the first leg in Spain, Ajax face an uphill battle—and they will do so without one of their most influential players. Ziyech’s calf injury, which has troubled him since January 19, has resurfaced, and he has not fully recovered.

In a press conference, head coach Erik ten Hag confirmed the Moroccan international’s absence. The Ajax manager made it clear that he does not want to take unnecessary risks ahead of crucial Eredivisie fixtures.

“Given what’s coming next, I don’t want to take any risks,” he stated.

Ziyech had started the first leg, and if Ajax are eliminated, it could mark his final European appearance for the club. The Atlas Lion is set to join Chelsea FC next summer on a five-year deal.

His physical condition is also a concern for the Moroccan national team, with the Atlas Lions’ training camp scheduled from March 23 to 31.
