France has officially withdrawn its candidacy to host matches for Euro 2020, as announced by Noël Le Graet, president of the French Football Federation (FFF), during a press conference for Euro 2016.
The decision to withdraw from the candidacy, which included the city of Lyon, was made in the spirit of solidarity, according to Le Graet. He emphasized that hosting Euro 2016 was already a significant opportunity for France and that it was only fair to give other European cities and countries the chance to host matches for Euro 2020.
Euro 2020 is unique in that it will be held across thirteen cities, each representing a different country.
