Eugene Frimpong: Ghanaian midfielder joins Kalamata on free transfer from Ponferradina
Ghanaian central midfielder Eugene Frimpong has joined Greek side Kalamata on a free transfer from Spanish club Ponferradina.
The 23-year-old has signed a deal running until 30 June 2027 after leaving the Primera Federacion side at the end of his contract. He moves to Kalamata with a listed market value of 150,000.
Frimpong, a left-footed midfielder born in Kumasi, has spent his senior career to date in Spain, featuring in both the Segunda Federacion and Primera Federacion. He arrives in Greece having made almost 100 league appearances across the two divisions.
During his time with Zamora CF and Ponferradina, Frimpong totalled 95 league games, scoring six goals and providing three assists. He also featured in the Copa del Rey and took part in promotion play-off campaigns, adding further competitive experience at senior level.
Frimpong first came to European football with Real Valladolids youth system after leaving African Talent in 2021, progressing from Valladolids under-19s to their reserve side before earning moves to Zamora and then Ponferradina, both on free transfers.
Standing at 1.74m and primarily operating in central midfield, he now makes his first move outside Spain as Kalamata strengthen their squad for Super League 1 competition. The transfer was completed on 11 July 2026, confirming Frimpongs switch from Ponferradina to Kalamata on a permanent free transfer.
