Eugen Polanski urges Wael Mohya to add physical strength
Wael Mohya continues to enjoy strong backing at Borussia Monchengladbach, but head coach Eugen Polanski insists the young attacker must add physical strength to reach the next level.
Opponents are now well aware of Mohya’s dribbling talent and are increasingly trying to stop him with robust challenges.
“Everyone knows Wael’s qualities by now and understands: if he goes into one-on-one situations without physical contact, he will somehow find a way through,” Polanski explained ahead of Saturday’s match against Elversberg. As a result, defenders are deliberately targeting him in duels to disrupt his rhythm.
Mohya must now learn to either avoid these battles with sharper first touches or stand his ground more effectively. “He won’t get any taller, but he can get stronger,” Polanski said, summing up the next step in the teenager’s development.
There is no doubt about Mohya’s footballing ability. His individual brilliance and willingness to take on defenders can unlock stubborn defences, offering Gladbach a valuable attacking outlet.
Polanski highlighted his side’s poor decision-making in the final third during the 3-0 defeat to Leipzig, an area where Mohya could make a difference. The winger, who came off the bench late in that match, is firmly in contention for a starting role as Gladbach look to improve their end product.
