Etienne Camara’s hopes of joining Plymouth Argyle on transfer deadline day were dashed when Royal Charleroi Sporting Club refused to sanction the move.
The 21-year-old French-Guinean midfielder had been eager to make the switch to the Championship side, having been convinced by Plymouth’s head coach Miron Muslić.
Despite Etienne Camara’s enthusiasm, Charleroi’s director, Mehdi Bayat, vetoed the deal, citing the late stage of the transfer window and the club’s inability to secure a replacement in time.
Etienne Camara had been a regular starter for Charleroi earlier in the season, but his game time dwindled after a suspension for accumulating yellow cards on November 9th. Since returning, the midfielder has struggled to regain a place in the first team, playing only 19 minutes across four matches.
With his future uncertain, Etienne Camara will have to continue fighting for minutes at Royal Charleroi as his hoped-for move to England fades into the distance.
