Ethiopia has elected a new president to lead its football federation ahead of the first leg of the 2014 World Cup play-offs against Nigeria. Junedin Beshah was approved by the delegates of the General Assembly of the Ethiopian Football Federation during the sessions held from October 7 to 9.
Beshah secured 56 votes out of 101 valid votes cast, surpassing his challengers Tawfiq Abdulahi and Wondimu Gezahegn. He takes over the presidency from Sahilu Gebremariam.
This change in leadership comes just before a crucial match for the Ethiopian national team, and the newly elected president will be hoping for a positive start to his tenure with a victory against Nigeria on Sunday in the World Cup play-offs.
