Arsenal’s highly rated youngster Ethan Nwaneri says he is not closing the door on staying at Marseille beyond this season, even though his move is currently only a straight loan.
The young attacking midfielder joined the Ligue 1 side for the rest of the campaign, with no option to buy included in the agreement.
Nwaneri has confirmed that, as things stand, he is due back at the Emirates in the summer. However, when asked if a permanent transfer to Marseille could still become a possibility, he gave an honest but open-ended response.
“Yes, that’s true, anything is possible in football,” Nwaneri said. “We’ll see what happens. We’ll see if there’s any contact. I can’t tell you what will happen. We’ll see when it happens.”
Arsenal are not expected to approve a full sale in the near future, given how highly they rate the teenager. But if Nwaneri thrives in France, another season-long loan at Marseille could suit all parties, giving him regular top-flight minutes while Arsenal monitor his development closely for the long term.
