Espérance Sportive de Tunis has lodged a formal complaint with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following violent clashes between supporters after their CAF Champions League quarter-final against Mamelodi Sundowns in Pretoria.
Clashes erupt at Loftus Versfeld Stadium
The match, which ended in a 1-0 victory for Mamelodi Sundowns, was marred by disturbing scenes in the stands at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
Tensions between the two sets of supporters escalated after the final whistle, leading to violent confrontations.
In an official statement, Espérance de Tunis confirmed that three of their fans required hospital treatment as a result of the incidents.
However, the club reassured families and supporters that their condition remains stable and not life-threatening.
Club takes action
Espérance officials also worked swiftly to ensure the safe return of their supporters from Pretoria to Johannesburg, arranging transport from the stadium to the train station.
In response to the violence, the Tunisian club has compiled a full report detailing the disturbances and submitted it to CAF, calling for action against those responsible.
Tense quarter-final battle
The first leg of the quarter-final was a closely contested encounter, with Mamelodi Sundowns securing a narrow 1-0 win.
Espérance will now look to overturn the deficit in the return leg in Tunisia, where the atmosphere is expected to be electric.
As the club seeks justice for its supporters, all eyes will be on how CAF responds to the incident and whether any disciplinary measures will be taken.
