Tunisian giants Esperance Sportive de Tunis are in advanced discussions to appoint French coach Patrice Carteron as their new head coach.

Carteron is expected in Tunisia tomorrow to hold negotiations with the club president, following the decision to part ways with Maher Kanzari.

Kanzari was dismissed after Esperance’s 1-0 defeat to Stade Malien in the fifth round of the 2025-2026 CAF Champions League group stage.

In the meantime, Esperance confirmed that French coach Christian Braconi will serve as interim manager for the team’s upcoming clash against Angola’s Petro Atletico on Saturday, the final group stage match.

Stade Malien have already secured top spot in the group with 11 points, while Esperance sit second with six points, equal to Petro Atletico in third. Simba finished last with just two points.

Carteron, who last managed Umm Salal in Qatar until January, brings a wealth of African experience, having previously coached Al-Ahly, Zamalek, Wadi Degla, TP Mazembe, and Raja Casablanca.
