Tunisian giants Esperance have dismissed head coach Maher Kanzari following a 1-0 defeat to Stade Malien in the CAF Champions League group stage.
In a club statement, Esperance confirmed: “The club president, Mr Hamdi Meddeb, has decided to terminate the contractual relationship with coach Maher Kanzari. The composition of the new coaching staff will be announced in the coming days.”
Kanzari, 52, took charge of Esperance in March last year, succeeding Romanian coach Reghecampf.
During his tenure, he oversaw 42 matches across all competitions, recording 27 wins, nine draws, and six losses, guiding the team in the Tunisian League, Champions League, and Club World Cup.
The setback against Stade Malien on Sunday marked a crucial blow in Group D, leaving Esperance in second place with six points, level on points with leaders Petro Luanda of Angola but trailing on goal difference.
The club now faces the challenge of regrouping ahead of the final group stage matches as it looks to salvage its Champions League campaign.
