Espérance Sportive de Tunis have finalised an agreement with Mauritanian international Ibrahima Keita, who joins the club on a two-year contract following his stint at Congolese giants TP Mazembe.
The 24-year-old right-back has electronically signed the deal, with the formal contract set to be inked in person once he completes a routine medical examination.
Keita arrived in Tunis on Thursday morning to finalise the move.
Known for his tenacity and versatility, Keita caught the attention of Espérance’s technical staff during his performances in the CAF Champions League.
His physicality, pace, and tactical discipline made him a standout figure at Mazembe, and his addition is seen as a strategic reinforcement for the Tunisian side ahead of an ambitious 2025/26 campaign.
“Keita is the kind of profile we’ve been looking for — strong, fast, and experienced at the continental level,” a member of the EST coaching team was quoted as saying. The club, often referred to as “the Blood and Gold,” are aiming to rebuild a squad capable of competing both in the domestic league and in African competitions.
This transfer underscores Espérance’s continued focus on talent from sub-Saharan Africa, a region that has consistently produced some of the club’s most impactful players.
The recruitment of Keita also aligns with the club’s broader strategy of blending youthful energy with experienced professionals who understand the demands of African club football.
Keita’s arrival is particularly timely as Espérance look to bolster their defensive line following a mixed campaign last season.
The player’s Champions League experience with TP Mazembe adds significant value, especially as the Tunisian side aims to reclaim its dominance on the continental stage.
The move had not gone uncontested. Keita was also being closely monitored by Tanzanian club Young Africans SC, who had shown strong interest in securing his services.
However, Espérance’s decisive approach ensured they won the race for his signature.
Once the medical formalities are completed, Keita will be officially unveiled as an Espérance player, becoming one of the club’s key additions of the summer transfer window.
With this signing, Espérance de Tunis signal their intent to compete at the highest level next season, relying on a blend of regional scouting and continental experience to shape a squad capable of delivering silverware.
