Esam El Sherei, the national coach, took to the social media platform “X” to comment on his departure from the technical leadership of the Moroccan national Olympic team, after clinching the Africa Cup title months ago in the capital, Rabat.
Expressing his gratitude towards all components of the national team and the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, El Sherei wished “Atlas Cubs” further success, considering what has been achieved as just the beginning of what is better.
El Sherei stated: “I express my pride in what I have accomplished and my great appreciation for the opportunity I have had during this time to serve the Royal Moroccan Football Federation under the supervision of President Fouzi Lekjaa.”
He added: “As a coach of the national Olympic team during a period in which we achieved historical accomplishments, including our qualification for the Olympics, knowing that our last participation was in 2012, and our victory in the Africa Cup for the first time in Morocco, which has been and still is a source of great joy for the Moroccan people.”
El Sherei continued, expressing his sincere thanks to “our champion team, our wonderful and exceptional players, and all the technical and medical staff who supported us throughout this journey under the supervision of the technical management led by Chris van Puyvelde.”
He expressed gratitude for their guidance and leadership, which was essential in shaping our successful strategy and approach.
He concluded his tweet expressing his hope “that this historical achievement and successful strategy pave the way for greater achievements in the history of Moroccan football,” offering a special thanks “to all Moroccans who supported us during this period,” stating that “your passion and support have been a source of inspiration for all of us.
Thank you for your trust in entrusting me with the honor of representing our country on the world stage.”
It is worth mentioning that the Royal Moroccan Football Federation decided, a week ago, to dispense with El Sherei and replace him with national coach Tarik Sektioui, who will lead “the cubs” during the prestigious sporting event “Paris 2024 Olympics.”
