The National Professional Football League (LNFP) of Tunisia has imposed a series of sanctions on ES Zarzis following crowd disturbances during their recent Ligue 1 clash with ES Sahel.
The game, which took place on the 9th day of the league, saw the host team, ES Zarzis, punished for throwing projectiles, a repeat offense that led to the penalty.
In a decision made during a meeting held on Tuesday, the LNFP handed down a fine of 10,000 dinars to ES Zarzis, along with the significant punishment of playing their next home match behind closed doors.
This sanction follows the incidents that marred the match against ES Sahel, which saw unsporting behavior from the home supporters.
As a result of the penalty, ES Zarzis will face AS Gabès this Saturday, for the 11th day of Ligue 1, in an empty stadium.
The closed-door match will deprive the team of the vital home support they typically rely on, at a time when their fans would have been most eager to see their team in action.
The club will have to make do without the usual atmosphere that fans provide, as they seek to bounce back from this latest setback.
This decision underscores the league’s zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct in the stands and aims to maintain the integrity and safety of the competition.
For ES Zarzis, the challenge will now be to perform under difficult circumstances while awaiting the return of their supporters in future fixtures.
