Espérance de Tunis, known as the “Blood and Gold,” showcased their resilience and class with a commanding 3-0 victory over EGS Gafsa in a late Tunisian Ligue 1 match.
Despite missing key players like Youcef Belaïli (suspended) and Rodrigo Rodrigues (injured), ES Tunis delivered a crushing performance that solidified their dominance.
Playing on a challenging pitch at the Gafsa stadium, the visitors adapted swiftly. In the 28th minute, Elias Mokwana’s pace on the right set up Mohamed Ben Ali, whose pinpoint cross found Zinedine Kada to open the scoring.
The second half saw the Esperantist machine shift into high gear. A well-taken corner by Larry Azzouni in the 59th minute allowed Mokwana to double the lead with a clever flick. The final nail in the coffin came in added time when Kebba Sowe converted a precise cross from Ben Ali to make it 3-0.
While ES Tunis celebrated a crucial win, EGS Gafsa’s struggles deepened, with financial troubles forcing their players to wear red armbands in protest. For ES Tunis, all eyes now turn to Sunday’s classico against CS Sfaxien.
