Erling Haaland teases ‘loose cannon’ Jamie Carragher as Mohamed Salah row deepens
Erling Haaland has responded playfully to Jamie Carragher after the former Liverpool defender ignited controversy with sharp criticism of Mohamed Salah earlier this week.
Carragher described Salah’s post-match interview following the Leeds United game as a “disgrace” and claimed it appeared “choreographed”, sparking significant debate among supporters.
The Manchester City striker addressed the issue after scoring the decisive penalty in City’s 2-1 Champions League victory over Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.
He joined CBS Sports Golazao for a post-match discussion with Carragher and Micah Richards.
Haaland opened the exchange with humour, saying, “Oof I’m getting nervous now when I see Jamie Carragher in the studio”. Carragher responded, “You don’t have to be nervous Erling!”
The Norwegian continued the light-hearted tone when asked to choose between Rudiger and Carragher, adding, “I mean, I think I need to say Rudiger now because Carragher is a bit of a loose cannon!”
He later joked about podcast invitations, stating, “I mean Jamie Carragher in this moment, and Roy Keane, I think I need to bring my father.”
The conversation came as Salah posted a solitary gym photo from Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre after being left out of the squad that travelled to Italy to face Inter Milan.
Haaland liked the post, prompting speculation about whether the striker was offering subtle support during what appears an uncomfortable period for the Egyptian.
Liverpool secured a hard-fought win with an 88th-minute penalty from Dominik Szoboszlai, maintaining momentum ahead of their fixture against Brighton this weekend.
The match could represent Salah’s final outing for the club if selected.
