Erling Haaland reaches landmark as Manchester City maintain perfect Premier League start

Erling Haaland scored the 300th goal of his club career as Manchester City beat Coventry City 1-0 in the third round of the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The Norway international reached the milestone in the 26th minute, heading in a cross from Antoine Semenyo to give Manchester City the only goal of the match.

Haaland’s landmark total has been built across four clubs. He scored 20 goals in 50 appearances for Molde, followed by 29 goals in 27 matches for Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg. During his time with Borussia Dortmund, he found the net 86 times in 89 games.

His largest contribution has come since moving to Manchester City, where he has now scored 165 goals in 202 appearances.

The latest goal also extended Haaland’s record for headed goals since he joined Manchester City in the 2022-23 season. His ability to attack crosses and make the most of his physical presence in the penalty area has remained a significant part of his threat for the club.

Saturday’s goal was Haaland’s third in three matches at the start of this season. That keeps him at the top of the Premier League’s scoring standings, level with Alexander Isak of Liverpool and Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United.

The result also maintained Manchester City’s perfect start to the campaign. They have won all three of their opening matches and moved temporarily to the top of the table with nine points.

For Haaland, the achievement adds another major statistical landmark to a career that has continued to produce records at club level. His goals for Molde, Red Bull Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City have taken him to a total of 300, with Saturday’s header providing the decisive moment in a narrow victory.

The Norway striker’s contribution was especially important in a match settled by a single goal. Manchester City were unable to add to their advantage after the 26th minute, but Haaland’s finish was enough to secure a third consecutive league win.

The milestone comes as Haaland continues to perform strongly for City under manager Enzo Maresca. The manager has begun his first season with the club with three successive victories, leaving Manchester City on nine points and provisionally leading the Premier League standings.

Haaland’s early-season scoring form has also placed him alongside two other leading forwards in the race for the Golden Boot. Alexander Isak and Bruno Fernandes have each scored three goals as well, setting up an early contest at the top of the scoring chart.
