Cameroonian defender Eric Matoukou, who left Belgium to try his luck in Ukraine two years ago, is set to make a comeback in Belgian football. Matoukou was sold to the Ukrainian club Dnipro but was immediately loaned to Arsenal Kyiv, and he never played for Dnipro. Now, the naturalized Belgian defender is reportedly on the verge of returning to Racing Genk.
Matoukou previously played for Genk from 2003 to 2011, and he is now eager to return to the club. His stint in Ukraine with Dnipro was not successful, and he is looking to find familiarity at the Cristal Arena. The 29-year-old is currently undergoing medical tests, and if everything goes well, he is expected to sign a new contract with Genk.
In addition to Genk, Belgian media reports suggest that Matoukou is also being courted by Standard Liège, indicating interest from multiple Belgian clubs in securing his services.
