Eric Gerets Parts Ways with Lekhwiya After Disappointing Results
Doha — Belgian coach Eric Gerets has parted ways with Qatari club Lekhwiya following a series of disappointing results, the club announced on its official website. The decision comes after the team’s early exits from both the Asian Champions League and the Qatar Cup.
Gerets, who took over as head coach of the Qatari side, led them to a league title last March. However, despite this success, the club’s poor performances in international and domestic cup competitions led to his departure. Gerets expressed his disappointment in leaving the club with only one trophy, stating on the club’s website, “It’s a shame to leave with only one title.”
The former Olympique de Marseille manager and ex-Belgian international, who had previously enjoyed a successful coaching career in various countries, remains confident about his future. Speaking to RTBF, Gerets revealed that he has received several offers and that his agent is currently handling the details. “I don’t know where my next destination will be, but I am looking forward to the next challenge,” he said.
Gerets’ departure from Lekhwiya marks the end of a chapter in his coaching career in Qatar, and it remains to be seen where he will land next.
