Eric Chelle names Arthur Okonkwo in Nigeria’s Unity Cup squad as Super Eagles prepare for London tests
Head coach Eric Chelle has unveiled a competitive 26-man Super Eagles squad for the upcoming Unity Cup and a series of international friendlies, with Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo receiving his first call-up since pledging his international future to Nigeria.
The selection marks a significant moment in Chelle’s ongoing squad rebuild as he looks to sharpen depth and competition across all departments ahead of a packed schedule of fixtures.
Okonkwo is among three goalkeepers invited for the camp as preparations intensify for the tournament scheduled to take place in London.
For the Unity Cup, which will feature semi-final and final fixtures at Charlton Athletic Stadium, The Valley, between 26 and 30 May, Chelle has selected captain Wilfred Ndidi, goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, defenders Bruno Onyemaechi and Igoh Ogbu, forwards Moses Simon, Akor Adams and Terem Moffi, alongside 20 other players.
The Super Eagles will face the Warriors of Zimbabwe at The Valley on Tuesday, 26 May, with victory securing progression to the final, where they would meet the winner of Jamaica and India, who play at the same venue a day later.
The team will also take on Poland and Portugal in high-profile international friendlies scheduled to be played across Europe next month.
Chelle’s latest selection reflects a blend of experience and emerging talent as he seeks to strengthen Nigeria’s depth ahead of a busy international calendar.
