AS Monaco, a major player in the transfer window, is actively building a team for championship contention and is contemplating bolstering its defense. Eric Abidal is currently on the club’s radar, having undergone a medical examination on the Rock. However, the Martinican’s health condition appears to be a source of caution for the club.
In statements reported by Le Parisien, Abidal acknowledges advanced contacts with AS Monaco. Despite expressing his desire to continue playing, the former Barcelona defender, who underwent a liver transplant, is keeping his options open: “I met the sporting director of Monaco (…) Everyone is worried about my state of health. My medical examination went well. But concretely, I don’t have a contract and I can also have other possibilities.”
Abidal emphasizes that he has good relationships with various coaches and mentions names like Pep Guardiola (Bayern Munich), Rémi Garde (Lyon), Gérard Houllier (New York Red Bulls), Claude Puel (Nice), or Laurent Blanc (PSG). While currently in direct contact with Monaco, he keeps his options open for other opportunities if the move to Monaco doesn’t materialize.
