Al Ahly coach José Ribeiro has expressed his delight after leading the Red Devils to their first win of the Egyptian Premier League season.
On Friday night, Al Ahly delivered a commanding 4-1 victory over FC Pharco, asserting control over the match, particularly in the first half.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Ribeiro highlighted the significance of the result while acknowledging areas for improvement.
“The victory was important and came in a fitting manner, as we dominated the opponent’s half, especially early on. However, the performance dipped after the third goal due to slackness, which is unacceptable,” he said.
Addressing the error made by goalkeeper Mostafa Shobier, Ribeiro emphasised the depth of talent in the squad.
“Al Ahly has three goalkeepers of exceptional calibre, but only one can play at a time. We shouldn’t single out any individual, whether it’s Shobier or anyone else,” he stated.
Ribeiro also dismissed any external pressure concerning team selections.
“I was not influenced by fans or media regarding the inclusion of Moroccan Achraf Bencharki and Malian Aliou Dieng. These decisions are based on my personal conviction,” he added.
Reflecting on the squad’s potential, Ribeiro concluded: “There is tremendous talent in Al Ahly, and we have a plan in place. Achieving our goals is never easy, but we are prepared for the challenge.”
