Enyimba FC, Nigeria’s pride in the CAF Confederation Cup, has ramped up preparations for their crucial Group D opener against Egypt’s Al Masry on November 27.
Led by coach Yemi Olarenwaju, the team has relocated to Uyo to train on a grass pitch, mirroring the conditions they will face in Egypt. Explaining the strategic move, Olarenwaju emphasized the importance of acclimatization.
“It’s been good; that’s why we came to Uyo to prepare for our continental match; we’re going to play on a grass pitch in Egypt,” he said.
“Our ground in Aba is synthetic, and ball movement is quite different; that’s why we’re here; kudos to the management of Enyimba for bringing us here early so we can get used to the grass”, he added.
Group D promises fierce competition, with Enyimba, Al Masry, Egypt’s Zamalek, and Mozambican champions Black Bulls vying for supremacy.
All eyes now turn to November 27, where the People’s Elephant will seek to trump Al Masry on their home soil.
