Enugu Rangers, reigning champions of the Nigerian Professional Football League, have bolstered their squad with the acquisition of five new players ahead of the upcoming season. Among the notable signings are midfielders Ugwuoke Ugochukwu and Nwobodo Somtochukwu, marking a significant strengthening of their midfield lineup.

Ugwuoke Ugochukwu, a former player returning to the Rangers after a season sidelined due to a knee injury, has signed a new contract with the club.

The 20-year-old midfielder’s comeback was confirmed by the club on Friday, July 5, 2024, through an official announcement on their social media channels.

His return is expected to enhance the team’s midfield capabilities, bringing added depth and experience to their title defense campaign.

Joining Ugochukwu in midfield are Nwobodo Somtochukwu and Garando Tekena, both securing moves to Enugu Rangers from Inter FC of Enugu and Bayelsa United respectively.

The club has moved swiftly to integrate these players into their squad, aiming to maintain their competitive edge in both domestic and continental competitions.

In attack, Ekeson Okorie has been recruited following an impressive stint with Bayelsa United, where he showcased his versatility and goal-scoring prowess.

The Nigerian winger, who netted six goals and provided four assists in 30 appearances last season, adds valuable attacking options to the Rangers’ frontline.

His ability to play across various positions in the attacking third makes him a versatile asset for the team.

Completing the quintet of signings is Anayor Ogbonna, a seasoned striker joining from Gombe United despite their relegation to the Nigeria National League.

At 32 years old, Ogbonna brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of individual performance, which is expected to complement the squad’s ambitions under the leadership of Enugu Rangers.

The signings reflect Enugu Rangers’ proactive approach in the transfer market as they prepare to defend their NPFL title and compete in other domestic and international tournaments.

With these additions, the club aims to build on their recent successes and continue to be a dominant force in Nigerian football.

The upcoming season holds promise for Enugu Rangers, with fans eagerly anticipating the debut of these new signings alongside the existing roster.

As preparations intensify for the start of the campaign, all eyes will be on how the team integrates these players into their tactical framework and strives for further achievements on the field.
