Enppi boosted their survival hopes with a hard-fought 1-0 away victory over Ismaily on Wednesday night in the Egyptian Premier League relegation play-offs.
The visitors broke the deadlock in the 74th minute when Ahmed Khalil “Kalusha” found the net, handing Enppi all three points in a tense clash at the Ismaily Stadium.
Controversy flared as several Enppi players were brought down off the ball, sparking protests from the visiting side. Refereeing decisions became a talking point as the match wore on, with Enppi feeling hard done by on a number of occasions.
Despite the tension, Hamza El-Gamal’s men held firm to see out the win. The result pushes Enppi up to sixth place in the relegation group with 21 points — a timely boost in their battle to avoid the drop.
For Ismaily, the pressure continues to mount. Tamer Mostafa’s side now sit in eighth and second from bottom with 19 points, needing urgent results to escape the looming threat of relegation.
