English-Nigerian striker Elijah Adebayo joins Bristol City on two-year deal to bolster attack

Bristol City have strengthened their attacking options with the signing of striker Elijah Adebayo on a two-year contract.

The 28-year-old joins the Robins on a permanent deal after leaving Luton Town earlier this summer. Adebayo had already spent time training with City during pre-season, giving manager Michael Skubala an opportunity to assess the forward before the club completed the move.

His arrival makes him City’s 10th signing of the summer transfer window and provides further competition in an area Skubala is keen to strengthen ahead of the new campaign.

Adebayo will wear the No. 45 shirt and is relishing the opportunity to begin the next chapter of his career at Ashton Gate.

“I can’t wait to get started. The place has a feel-good factor and it has been easy for me to settle in.

“The gaffer has been very clear with what he wants from us and how to attack the season so that is a big reason why I wanted to join.

“I will try and use my experience to push the group and get everyone going in the same direction.”

Proven Championship experience

Adebayo brings considerable experience to City after spending six years with Luton, where he made 184 appearances and played a key role in the club’s rise to the Premier League.

He was part of the Luton side that secured promotion to the top flight in 2023, before making history by becoming the first player to score a hat-trick for the club in the Premier League.

The striker also enjoyed a productive 2023/24 campaign, finishing the season with 10 goals as Luton competed in England’s top division.

City hail Adebayo’s impact

City sporting director James Ellis believes Adebayo’s familiarity with the squad from pre-season made the decision to bring him in a straightforward one.

“We have really benefited having Elijah around the place.

“He has a huge amount of experience and he gives us a different dimension to our frontline and added competition in that area as we head towards the end of the transfer window.”

Skubala is equally pleased to have secured the forward, highlighting the different qualities he can bring to the attack.

“We know what a good player Elijah is and he gives us something different going forward. We have all got to know him in pre-season and we are excited to have him as part of the group.”

With Adebayo now officially on board, City have added a proven forward with top-flight and promotion experience as they continue to shape Skubala’s squad for the season ahead.
