Bukayo Saka has admitted that Arsenal’s 2-2 draw at Wolves left the away dressing room “very flat,” after the Gunners surrendered a 2-0 lead in the closing stages.
The England international of Nigerian descent was candid about the disappointment that hung over the squad, acknowledging that their second-half performance fell well below the standards the team has set this season.
“Yeah, it’s very flat. Very disappointed with the result and especially with the way we played in the second half. Far from the standards we’ve set this season,” Saka said after the match.
Arsenal appeared in control for much of the encounter, with two goals putting them firmly in command, only for Wolves to strike twice inside the final ten minutes, leaving Mikel Arteta’s side frustrated.
Saka stressed the need for the squad to reflect quickly and address their recent inconsistencies.
“It’s time for us to reflect on the last few performances and fix the issues immediately, so we can get back to winning games, go on a run and build momentum because we’ve lost that a bit right now,” he added.
The attacker emphasized that Arsenal possess the quality to win, particularly in matches where they have recently dropped points, but urged the team to refocus on the fundamentals.
“I just think we have to get back to our level. Do the basics right and we’ve got more than enough quality in this team to win games, especially in the games where we’ve been dropping points in recently. We need to fix that and that’s all our focus is right now,” Saka said.
Despite the setback, Arsenal remain five points clear at the summit of the Premier League, although they have played one more game than second-placed Manchester City.
The result serves as a reminder that, even with a comfortable lead in the table, lapses in concentration and discipline can quickly erode advantage.
