English-Ivorian Marc Guehi holds talks with Crystal Palace chairman after Liverpool transfer collapse
Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi has held discussions with club chairman Steve Parish following the collapse of his proposed move to Liverpool on transfer deadline day.
The centre-back had been set for a £35 million switch, with paperwork already submitted, only for Palace to pull out at the final stage.
Guehi, who was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, before moving to England as a child, has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most consistent defenders.
According to reports, Guehi was left frustrated by Parish’s late intervention, which denied him the chance to join Arne Slot’s side.
The Mirror claims he has even contemplated giving up the Palace captaincy as a result.
Parish, however, sought to ease tensions by meeting Guehi and his family earlier this week, explaining that the absence of an immediate replacement forced the club to halt the transfer.
“Marc is hugely important to us, and in the final hours of the window we simply couldn’t complete a deal without jeopardising the balance of the squad,” Parish is reported to have told the defender.
The meeting was aimed at ensuring clarity and preventing a long-term rift with a player seen as central to Palace’s stability.
Guehi, now in the final year of his contract, remains a priority target for Liverpool, who could return with a reduced offer in January.
With his future unresolved and negotiations over a new deal at Selhurst Park yet to progress, Palace may face renewed pressure to sell rather than risk losing him for free.
